Lots to see

The Lake District is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in England.  Designated as a National Park in 1951 to promote the area’s outstanding beauty and the enjoyment of it, the Lake District National Park is one of the largest in the UK, at 880 square miles.

The Lake District is an area of superlatives that, once seen, you won’t forget in a lifetime!  Home to England’s longest lake (Windermere), its deepest lake (Wastwater), the steepest road (the Hardknott Pass) and the country’s highest mountain (Scafell Pike).

If it’s adventure you’re after then the Lake District fells and the lakes themselves provide all you could ask for, all year round.  Grasmere is ideally located within the Lake District so that every valley can be explored, with just a short journey from Rothay Garden.

Guests at Rothay Garden are in good company as owner Chris Carss is a keen fell walker and runner, and he’ll be pleased to recommend suitable walks during your stay.

More relaxing pursuits can, of course, be just as enjoyable, and attractions like Rheged, The World of Beatrix Poter, Windermere Lake Cruises, Ullswater Steamers and the shops of Ambleside, Windermere, Kendal and Keswick are all close by.
