Castles, Comedy and the Cumberland Show make May and June the time to stay - 01/05/2014
There's lots happening in the Lake District this month and next. The daffodils might be gone for another year, but in their place come numerous festivals, shows and fairs which make a stay at Rothay Garden in May or June an extra special delight.
Festivals abound throughout the county, with the Keswick Mountain Festival (15th - 18th May) growing in popularity and strength each year. Kendal sees the Freerange Comedy Festival (great name!) from 12th - 18th May, and for all gardens enthusiasts there's the Holker Garden Festival at the end of May.
Castles and stately homes often put on their own shows, and many of our hotel guests visit the Muncaster Festival each year (25th - 29th May) and the Dalemain Plant, Food and Craft Fair near Ullswater (22nd June). Staying on the "water" theme, there's the Great North Swim (13th - 15th June) and the Epic Lakes Swim on Derwentwater (22nd June).
And it wouldn't be a Spring of shows and fairs if we didn't see those old foodie favourites, the Taste Cumbria Food Festival in Ulverston (24th and 25th May) and the Keswick Beer Festival on 6th and 7th June.
Finally, these two months play host to the county shows, which often abound with flavours of the Lakes and arts and crafts to buy and take home. The Westmorland County Show takes place on 31st May and 1st June, and the Cumberland Show on 14th June. Enjoy "the season" in Cumbria and grab yourself a super Summer Saver here at Rothay Garden - full details on this site.
"We really did have a fabulous time and the food was out of this world – especially for a village which specialises in gingerbread!"
