As a defining member of the English Romantic Movement, Wordsworth's poetry was deeply influenced by his love of nature, especially by the sights and scenes of the "Lake Country" (Lake District), in which he spent most of his mature life.  

I WANDERED lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze... 

An excerpt from one of Wordsworth's well known poems, written at Town-end Grasmere, inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Lake District.  The Daffodils grew and still grow on the margin of Ullswater and can be seen to this day.

Born on 7 April 1770, in the town of Cockermouth, north-west of Keswick, Wordsworth spent the first 17 years of his life in and around the Lake District.  Visitors can visit his birthplace and childhood home Wordsworth House which is now a National Trust property.
